Regulations needed for gig economy workers in Malaysia

Here’s an essay by EMIR Research discussing the various benefits provided by the Malaysian government for gig economy workers.

As someone that deals a lot with tech companies and startups, I have drafted countless online agreements for digital platforms and marketplaces which leverages extensively on the supply of gig economy workers.

I can’t help but find myself empathetic towards the gig economy workers in Malaysia. I personally feel that we need to have some basic safety net and some form of regulations to protect the gig economy workers so that they will not be exploited.
